Artist Statement
As the sunbeams travel through the air, the interplay between light, airflow, and the surfaces of objects always enlivens my visual experience of the scene as they seem to shift. These dynamic moments constantly alter my experience and often prompt a transitory and lingering feeling in me. I have always felt that the dynamic and transitory visual scene is poetic and graceful, and I paint to express this idea through different subjects, such as mist, petals, leaves, or clouds, based on the way light interacts with them. Specifically, my interest is to portray the changes in my subject as it travels through the air while it keeps scattering and moving slowly across the view and interacts with the light. For example, it could be a scene where the elements of my subject spin or drift softly and scatter through the air, wandering their way across the field, while the light was glancing over or casting upon them. As this type of scene is dynamic, painting the shifting instants of it requires careful studies of the subtle changes in the subject’s colour and form together with the environment’s setting and mood influenced by light. This approach allows me to paint a scene by weaving the elements naturally to convey the instantaneous, elegant beauty of it. With this, I hope my paintings create a visual mood and inspire a feeling of serene liveliness.
