Exhibition Statement:

The Space Between is a solo exhibition from Kirk Gower that follows the rich tradition of still life paintings, where objects go beyond everyday items and portray complex narratives. In this show, Kirk is interested in how changes between similar paintings can affect what viewers see and feel. He asks what happens during the time between one painting and the next and what details are added, lost, or changed. Each painting toys with Memento Mori symbolism and has different layers of meaning to tell stories that explore feelings like loss, love, and anguish.
