Peter Braune of New Leaf and Debra Yelva from Dundatave Print Workshop conceived the idea of BIMPE (Biannual International Mini Print Exhibition), in the year 2000. During Peter’s absence from 2000 to 2002, to help set up (STPI), Singapore Tyler Print Institute, BIMPE was nurtured and carried forward by the remarkable efforts of Katie Dey, Marijke Nap and Debra Yelva.

Since 2006, BIMPE has been organized by The Society for Contemporary Works on Paper (SCWOP) a not-for-profit Society dedicated to advancing the appreciation and awareness of various forms of print media on paper and to fostering the exchange of ideas and techniques among artists working on paper. BIMPE, held every two years in Vancouver, is a showcase for small scale works measuring no more than 15cm × 10cm, and is open to images made using all printmaking techniques from traditional line etching to contemporary digital processes. From the hundreds of entries submitted by printmakers from across the world, the show is selected by a jury of three practising printmakers or print educators who view each submission in the live print format.

After two years of delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic, BIMPE XI is opening at the Visual Space Gallery in Vancouver, BC. This year, we are pleased to receive Aurora Landin, Mehdi Darvishi and Dan Starling as jury members who will be selecting participating prints for prizes and honourable mentions. We are thrilled to finally announce the return of BIMPE in partnership with the Visual Space Gallery in November 2022.
